Quality Inspector

About the position:

This person will conduct inspections on complex machined parts and assemblies to determine conformance per customer required specifications, models, blueprints and mylars utilizing various types of inspection equipment and set-up. The job requires this person to be detail oriented, organized and have the ability to work independently with limited supervision. This person must also be able to multi-task, meet deadlines and work well under pressure in a fast paced, high-growth environment. This position reports to the V.P. of Quality or his/her designee.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  1. Under the supervision and direction of the V.P. of Quality or his/her designee:
    1. Inspect completed and in-process parts/assemblies to Customer required specifications, models, blueprints and mylars according to Job Traveler/Shop Books and established department procedures.
    2. Document and record all inspection results including discrepancies and reject parts/assemblies.
    3. Advise machinists of conformities and non-conformities.
    4. Assist in the coordination of corrective and preventative action and the cause and resolution of defective parts/assemblies.
    5. Perform First Article inspections to AS9100 Specifications and Customer Requirements.
    6. Perform other duties as assigned by the V.P. of Quality.
  2. Within the scope of the job requirements, will adhere to and comply with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and the Company’s ISO Quality Program, Policies and Procedures.
  3. As an integral part of performing all day-to-day duties, must fully adopt, endorse and perform all duties in compliance with and in the spirit of the Company’s Vision, Values and Culture.

Key skills and competencies:

 

  1. Must be able to follow written, oral instructions and be able to retain and carry out multiple work assignments.
  2. Must have excellent math skills, including but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, including proficiency with geometry, trigonometry and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing.
  3. Must be proficient with all QC precision measuring equipment including but not limited to dial calipers, micrometers, height gauges and indicators.
  4. Must have strong command of blueprint reading including an understanding of engineering drawings and customer specifications and DPD and MBD processes.
  5. Must have computer knowledge, including data entry and strong command of the Microsoft Office Suite products (especially Excel) and MRP/ERP software systems.
  6. Must be able to stand for entire shift and repeatedly push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop and lift up to 40 pounds.
  7. Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
  8. Must have strong desire and willingness to learn and leverage technology.

Minimum education and qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), required.
  2. Graduation from certified technical school, Associate, Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  3. 5 years Quality Assurance experience required. Direct experience in an Aerospace environment, preferred.
  4. 1-2 years CMM and Faro Arm operation, preferred.
  5. Proven direct experience and understanding of the responsibilities of working within an AS9100 manufacturing environment.
  6. Proven direct experience in the development and application of statistical process controls.
  7. Proven direct experience in the development and application of Lean processes.
  8. Must be qualified to work within an ITAR controlled environment and on ITAR controlled items (i.e.: US Citizen or equivalent).
